Notary Public

Barry Healy the Principal of the practice is also a Notary Public.  This is a separate profession but closely related to the legal profession.  A Notary Public’s functions include:-

  1. Authenticating public and private documents.

  2. Verifying attesting signatures to documents which are to be relied upon in the foreign countries.

  3. Noting and protesting Bills of Exchange.

  4. Drawing up ships protests.

A Notary Public plays a very important role in the Foreign Adoption Process.  A Notary Public is essential in the process in order to notarise the adoption papers.  He examines the adopters documents dossier and notaries the documents.  He checks that where copies of documents are being used he requires sight of the original to compare same with the copy.

When all of the documents have been assembled and bound in booklet form, the Notary authenticates them by means of a Notarial Certificate issued under his official seal which is attached to the front of the Booklet.

The dossier is then sent to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland for legalisation or to have the Apostile Certificate applied.

What documents are required to be notarised.

  • Powers of Attorneys for the purchase or sale or otherwise of foreign property.

  • Application papers for adoption of children abroad.
Affidavits for use in foreign Courts.

  • Documents from institutions of this State for use abroad.
Dishonoured international bills of exchange which need to be noted or protested.

  • Several types of international contracts and commercial agreements.
