Why Make a Will
- Make an appointment now to make your will (e-mal attach pro-forma and we will revert with appointment). It is important that every person makes a will as it allows you to provide for the distribution of your Estate on death.
- Great difficulties can arise when people die not having made a will. It can lead to unnecessary animosity building up within families. We strongly advise everybody to make a will. Remember you can change your will at any time.
Inheritance Tax/Beneficiaries
- A will is an important and efficient method in relation to tax planning.
- The potential inheritance tax liability of any beneficiary will be determined by that persons relationship to you. There are 3 thresholds:
Group 1 - Child/Foster Child or Minor Child of a deceased child of the Donor and the threshold amount is Euro 521,208.00.
Group 2 - A Lineal Ancestor or a Lineal Descendant, Brother or Sister or Child of a Brother or Sister and the threshold amount is Euro 52,121.00.
Group 3 - All others the threshold amount is Euro 26,060.00.
There are also reliefs which can be claimed. We can advise you on all of these reliefs.
Administration of Estates
Grants of Probate/Administration
If someone dies belonging to you, you should check have they made a will. Contact this office and we can assist you in administering the estate whether there is a will or not.
An executor/administrator has 12 months from the date of death in order to deal with the administration of an estate at that point the beneficiaries can seek to remove the Executor if he has not taken any steps to extract the Grant of Probate.
